Description
What are they for:
Primary Purpose: Drop Boxes are designed to correct steering geometry, specifically caster angle, which is altered when installing significant lift (typically 3-5 inches or more) on a 4x4 vehicle's suspension.
How it works: These "boxes" are installed to lower the rear attachment point of the vehicle's radius arms relative to the frame. This restores the correct angle of the radius arms, bringing the suspension geometry closer to the original.
Benefits:
Caster Correction: Essential for improving the directional stability of the vehicle after a lift.
Improved Ride and Comfort: By leveling the radius arms, vibrations are reduced and ride comfort and traction are increased.
Increased Articulation and Flex: Removes preload from the rubber bushings, allowing for greater suspension flex and longer bushing life.
Bigger Tire Clearance: Can move the front differential forward slightly (approximately 10mm) to provide more clearance between the tire and the wheel arch.
Gear Angle Correction: Lowers the gear crossmember slightly (about 8mm) to improve the pinion angles.
In short, Drop Boxes are crucial replacement parts in 4x4 lift kits, specifically designed to optimize the on- and off-road handling of lifted vehicles, preventing geometry problems and premature wear of suspension components.
